A human body requires a nutritional diet more than anything to remain health benefits and active. Numerous studies and researches stress the need for eating natural food such as fruits, vegetables, lean meat, dairy products, and wholegrain items. Another food group that people must include in their diet are the leafy green herbs which are full of nutrients. Many people look at herbs and spices as just ordinary ingredient needed to add a certain flavor to their meals, but little do they know that many of the herbs act as antioxidants, cancer-fighting agents, and have anti-inflammatory properties.

In prehistoric times, the herbs were mostly used for the medicinal purpose more than anything else, but as time grew and people got accustomed to the taste and smell of herb, then they were also used as seasonings while preparing meals. They are antimicrobial

One amazing benefit of herbs is their ability to fight harmful germs and bacteria. The herbs have a high concentration of polyphenols, which is an organic micronutrient found in a variety of plants. The two herbs that are full of antimicrobial properties are dill and oregano.

They are anti-inflammatory

One property that herbs share with spices is being anti-inflammatory. The chronic inflammation that occurs in the body triggers different chronic illnesses such as heart problems, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and arthritis. The herbs have polyphenols which help fight the inflammation, and it is advised that people use a good quantity of herbs in their meals and dishes to reduce the increased inflammation in the body. The herbs with anti-inflammatory properties are Sage, Chamomile, and lemongrass

Have low calories

Similar to numerous vegetables, the herbs also are quite low in calories. The calories are not only the one thing you have to consider when consuming food but herbs not only add taste to your meals but balance your diet and help to reduce weight. The Basil leaves are known to treat different cardiovascular complications. The basil leaves also regulate blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.

The herbs are very effective in removing body aches and muscle pains. Peppermint, sage, and curcumin are used to reduce pain and inflammation.
